If there are multiple enemies in Rank/Row 2, does the enemy move forward only when the enemy directly in front of it is killed? Or it can move forward to an empty column that has been recently cleared of all enemies?

They only move forward if the group directly in front of them is removed. Otherwise, it would be very hard and difficult to keep track of what is happening! Think of it sort of like Tetris!
